Linear Probes — Primary Vein Scanning
- L12-3s (MX7/M8 Elite): 3–12 MHz. Workhorse for vein mapping, reflux assessment, DVT screening, and procedure guidance.
- L14-6Ns (MX7/M8 Elite): 6–14 MHz. Higher frequency for excellent superficial resolution. Best for near-field mapping, calf veins, perforators, and sclerotherapy guidance.
- L14-3WU (Resona i9T): 3–14 MHz. Wide-bandwidth single-crystal probe with exceptional resolution across the full frequency range.
- L9-3U (Resona i9T): 3–9 MHz. Deeper-penetrating linear probe for larger patients.
- L13-3N (Consona N9): 3–13 MHz. Primary vein scanning probe.
- L9-3 (Consona N9): 2.5–9 MHz. Deeper vascular assessment.
Curved / Convex Probes — Deep Venous Assessment
- C5-1s (MX7/M8 Elite): 1–5 MHz. For deep venous assessment (iliac veins, IVC), abdominal imaging, and large patients where linear penetration is insufficient.
- SC5-1N (Consona N9): 1.2–6 MHz single-crystal convex.
Choosing the Right Probe by Exam Type
- GSV/SSV mapping (superficial segments): L14-6Ns or L14-3WU for highest resolution at 0.5–2cm depth.
- GSV mapping (deep thigh segments): L12-3s or L9-3U for better penetration at 2–4cm.
- Reflux assessment at junctions: L12-3s or L14-3WU.
- DVT screening (proximal): L12-3s for femoral and popliteal veins.
- DVT screening (calf veins): L14-6Ns for superficial tibial veins; switch to C5-1s for edematous calves.
- Sclerotherapy guidance: L14-6Ns or L14-3WU for maximum near-field resolution.
- Perforator identification: L14-6Ns or L14-3WU with low PRF color Doppler.
- Venipuncture / PICC: L14-6Ns or L14-3WU for superficial access; L12-3s for deeper targets.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which probe should I start with for a new vein practice?
The L12-3s is the best first probe — it covers vein mapping, DVT screening, and procedure guidance. Add the L14-6Ns for perforator work and sclerotherapy as volume grows.
Does probe selection differ between MX7 and M8 Elite?
No. Both support the same L12-3s and L14-6Ns probes with identical performance. The M8 Elite (cart) lets you keep multiple probes connected simultaneously.
Do Resona i9T probes work on the MX7?
No. Single-crystal probes (L14-3WU, L9-3U) are platform-specific to the Resona. Contact Capital Health for full compatibility details.
